This document assembles guidance and instructions to support authoring or contributing to StEER products that require the utilization of copyrighted still imagery. This guidance should be reviewed by all StEER members. This guidance document introduces the most important copyright rules with emphasis on the fair use exemption. The document provides information on best practices and heavily builds on practical examples. This Handbook was developed to contribute to the efforts of the international research community with the ultimate goal of bringing the researcher’s attention to the lawful utilization of images. No resources included in this report are used for commercial purposes and none of the authors receive remuneration directly related to the publication of this Handbook.
