Overview

The Structural Extreme Events Reconnaissance (StEER) Network Cross-Hazard Planning Workshop will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020, on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. The workshop will be facilitated by the StEER leadership team: Tracy Kijewski-Correa, Khalid Mosalam, David Prevatt, Ian Robertson and David Roueche with the participation of StEER members as well as representatives of the wider hazards community. The objectives of the workshop are as follows:

  1. solicit feedback on StEER response protocols

  2. improve StEER’s door-to-door damage assessment capabilities for each hazard

  3. unify StEER’s damage rating systems across hazards

  4. launch StEER’s cross-cutting working groups

Overview
Preparations

All attendees are asked to make their own travel arrangements, including reserving hotels near the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) campus. The two closest hotels are the Bancroft Hotel and Graduate Hotel. Berkeley City Club is also within walking distance of the workshop venue. See this listing of hotels for these and other options.

The workshop will make use of real-time digital collaboration to capture learnings so participants are asked to bring a laptop or tablet to the event.

In addition, our conversations will be seeded by participant responses to a set of pre-event question prompts. We ask that all participants complete these prompts by January 10, 2020.

Preparations
Venue
